Banner keeping an eye on dual player Brennan

Clare senior football captain Gary Brennan has emerged as a target for Davy Fitzgerald’s hurlers.

Banner keeping an eye on dual player Brennan

Brennan is a successful dual player with Ballyea and has caught the eye with a series of powerful club hurling displays at full-forward. And Clare senior hurling team selector Louis Mulqueen has admitted he would like to have Brennan involved with the All-Ireland champions.

“I have seen him play hurling and I wouldn’t mind having him on the Clare senior panel. I like Gary Brennan personally. I have watched him a lot and he has banged in a lot of goals.”

Meanwhile, Clare senior football team manager Colm Collins confirmed he will be without the services of sons Podge and Sean for next Saturday’s Munster SFC quarter-final replay against Waterford. Both players are members of Fitzgerald’s hurling panel for the provincial semi-final with Cork next Sunday.

Mulqueen believes both codes can be juggled successfully.

He reflected: “I believe, and it’s a personal view, that the big thing is to keep players injury free, keep the balance right, and watch their workload.

“Trying to give it both teams at the top level is a hard thing to do. It’s a hard balance.”
