O’Neill wants Duffy to stay

GAA president Liam O’Neill hopes Páraic Duffy remain on as director general beyond next February. The Monaghan native’s seven-year contract runs out in 13 months’ time, but O’Neill will be encouraging him to stay on.

O’Neill, when asked about the possibility of Duffy stepping down, said: “I’ll lay my cards on the table, and I’m quite happy to do it — I certainly hope not. I’d say the majority of this organisation would certainly hope not.”

Speaking about his future yesterday, Duffy said he had yet to discuss the matter with O’Neill and it was a matter for the president.
