The Sligo-based college, who face the daunting task of taking on UUJ in the opening round of the Sigerson Cup, were dominant in a sub-standard encounter and led for the entire 60 minutes.
They raced into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead after 13 minutes and though NUI Galway had David McCormack up front to keep them somewhat in touch — the Westmeath man kicked 0-4 — they struggled in other sectors of the park.
Four points ahead at the break, IT Sligo sealed the win when Stephen Coen hit the net from close range in the 51st minute to seal a man-of-the-match display.
