Crokes claim Twitter account was hacked

Dr Crokes officials moved quickly last night to distance themselves from a tweet insulting the referee of yesterday’s Munster final.

Crokes claim Twitter account was hacked

At 3.24pm, just minutes after Dr Crokes’ thrilling one-point win (0-13 to 0-12) the official account of the Killarney side (@drcrokesgaa) — which has over 3,000 followers — tweeted: “Are Munster Council taking the piss appointing that ref#muppet from Cork.”

Yesterday John Keogh, the PRO of the Dr Crokes club, said the account was ‘hacked’.

“It must have been hacked. About half a dozen members have access to the account. It must have gotten into the wrong hands. We completely disassociate ourselves from that tweet.”

Some 24 minutes later the club had deleted the offensive tweet and moved to distance itself from it. At 3.58pm the club’s official account tweeted: “The Dr Crokes club would like to officially disassociate ourselves from the previous comment made regarding the referee.”

Mr Keogh added the club would fully investigate as to exactly how the tweet was posted in the first place.
