Former GAA president Nickey Brennan believes Central Council were left in an unenviable position in choosing next year’s National Hurling League format.

Despite being presented with three other options, two of which were on last Saturday’s Clár, they opted to endorse the structure they voted in 11 months ago.

“I forecasted the status quo would remain,” said Brennan. “Too many things came on the table, although the vote was tight on the Carlow-Westmeath proposal [it lost by 19 votes to 17].
