Loughmore Castleiney one step from unique double

Loughmore/Castleiney chase an unique piece of history in tomorrow’s Tipperary SFC final with Aherlow Gaels at Semple Stadium.

Loughmore Castleiney one step from unique double

The senior football and hurling double in the same year has never been achieved in Tipperary and with the hurling title safely won, the Mid Tipp side are chasing what has eluded them twice, in 1983 and 1987, when they lost the hurling finals prior to winning the football title.

However, the games are catching up on them. Liam Treacy and Eddie Connolly are long-term absentees while defenders Aidan McGrath and Joseph Hennessy sat out the Munster Club SHC defeat against Na Piarsaigh and are in a race against time to be fit, as are Liam McGrath and Micheal Webster. They still have top players in Ciarán, Noel and John McGrath, while David Kennedy will be looking to win his second county football title, with Loughmore’s 12th and most recent success coming in 2004.
