Maher handed Tipp armband for 2014

Former young hurler of the year Brendan Maher has been appointed Tipperary senior hurling captain for 2014.

The Borrisleigh man, 24, was vice-captain to Shane McGrath this past season and was one of the team’s best performers in a disappointing season for the 2010 All-Ireland champions.

Noel McGrath, who narrowly lost out with Loughmore-Castleiney to Na Piarsaigh in Sunday’s Munster club SHC quarter-final, has been named vice-captain for next season.
