Queally and McGrath still head-to-head in race for Déise job

Queally’s stock has risen since their dramatic county final victory over Ballygunner on Sunday, the first in the club’s history.
The former U21 county manager’s work in Youghal hasn’t gone unnoticed either but McGrath has also been interviewed for the role.
The De La Salle man spoke with the selection committee last week.
McGrath led his own club to a county title and Munster final last year as well as enjoying success in the Harty Cup and Croke Cups with De La Salle school. The winning candidate will be given a three-year term and his name will be recommended to the county board by the selection committee possibly early next week.
John Mullane and Stephen Molumphy’s availability next year may come into the considerations in appointing a new manager.
Mullane is a brother-in-law and club-mate of McGrath but Queally is a former team-mate of Mullane while Molumphy’s club Ballyduff Upper nominated him for the position.
The selection committee comprises chairman Tom Cunningham, vice-chairman John O’Leary, secretary Timmy O’Keeffe, treasurer Joe Cleary as well as former players Stephen Frampton and James Murray.
Queally’s Passage face the winners of the Na Piarsaigh-Loughmore-Castleiney Munster quarter-final on November 10 but will do so without their star defender Noel Connors, who is spending three months holidaying in Asia.
