Cork duo set to miss Aussie Rules test

Cork duo Aidan Walsh and Ciarán Sheehan could miss the second Test of this year’s International Rules Series if the county IHC final is not postponed.

Walsh’s club Kanturk and Sheehan’s Éire Óg are due to clash in the curtain-raiser to the senior decider on Sunday, October 27, the day after Ireland’s second clash with Australia.

At last night’s county board meeting, delegates from both clubs indicated that they wished to fulfil this fixture on this date, despite secretary Frank Murphy informing them that this would effectively withdraw the players from international duty and that the executive would not be happy with such a state of affairs.

The senior final looks set to remain in its setting of October 27 following consideration by the CCC, despite a request by Sarsfields to put it back a week as they would be playing for a fourth consecutive week were they to reach it.
