The West Cork men played against the strong breeze in the opening period and trailed by six points, 1-9 to 1-3 at the break.
But a Trevor Horgan goal and points from Jack Meade, Cian Healy (free) and Darragh Curran put them back on level terms after 40 minutes.
The sides were level with five minutes remaining but Newcestown finished strongly, scoring four points without reply. Blarney’s David Dunlea reduced the gap to three as the game entered injury-time but they could not carve out a goal-scoring chance in the dying seconds.
Wind assisted, Blarney started brightly and went two points clear courtesy of midfielder Barra O’Connell. Newcestown took the lead against the run of play, however, when Cian Healy crashed to the net after the ball broke kindly for him on the 20m line. Blarney battled back and dominated possession and David Cremin found the corner of the net with an excellent finish after 19 minutes. And four unanswered points from the mid-Cork side ensured they led comfortably at the break.
Newcestown got a dream start to the second-half when Horgan goaled after Jack Meade’s shot was initially stopped by Paul Hallissey and Cian Healy put his side two clear with a brace from placed efforts — which wasn’t easy in the swirling breeze.
Blarney showed great character to get back level but an inspirational Healy free inspired Newcestown and they never looked back thereafter.
