Cork star Murphy calls it a day

Cork’s inspirational midfielder Juliet Murphy has indicated that last Sunday’s TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC final victory over Monaghan was her last game for the Rebels.

The Donoughmore player believes the Cork team could now break up, as ten members of the team captured their eighth All-Ireland medal at the weekend. When asked if Sunday was her last game for Cork, Murphy confirmed: “I knew it was my last, definitely.”

She added: “There will probably still be a core there but it’s at a stage now that even if players do drop off, the replacement is there and I think that’s very important.”

Meanwhile, Gregory McGonigle has stepped down as Monaghan manager after three years in charge.

McGonigle guided the county to three Ulster titles and a 2012 National League Division 1 title.
