The sixth and final place in the knockout stages of the Carlow SFC went to Tinryland, who outfought Mount Leinster Rangers in Kildavin yesterday.

Both sides had a player sent off in the final minutes while a Tinryland selector was also banished to the terraces. At that stage the game was over, as Tinryland overcame the concession of an early Jack Murphy goal to overrun their opponents in the second half. Within the space of two minutes, Ian Scully and Matthew O’Toole struck for goals to help Tinryland into a 2-6 to 1-6 lead at the break.

The expected Rangers back-lash never arrived and Robbie Moore’s late strike was the icing on the cake for Tinryland.

At Dr Cullen Park, former Carlow and O’Hanrahan great Marc Carpenter, who has flagged this was going to be his last season at this level received a standing ovation as he left the game prematurely due to injury. It was a sad day for him as Eric McCormack with 0-5 and Chris Blake’s 0-4 saw Éire Óg put the final nail in the O’Hanrahan coffin, prevailing by 1-16 to 0-10.
