Glenullin edge extra time
After two fairly drab rounds of games with a catch net for safety, it was the first weekend of proper knockout and it showed as Brian Mullan’s stunning right-wing point edged the 2007 winners into the last eight, where they will face Lavey this Saturday.
Earlier in the evening, Ballinascreen repeated the same comfortable victory of last year over Steelstown. ‘Screen, having played defensively earlier in the championship, opened up and went to town as they won by 2-15 to 2-5.
Kilrea set up yet another clash with Ballinderry in the last eight as they comfortably overcame Banagher on Saturday evening. The Pearses led by 0-14 to 1-3 heading into the last few minutes and they held on to win by four.
The Loup started brilliantly against Swatragh and led by 0-6 to 0-0 after just 10 minutes but two goals from county panellist Conor McAtamney brought the rank outsiders back into it.
They more than held their own but Ciaran Devlin’s early second half penalty proved enough to edge Kevin Madden’s men into the quarter-finals where they’ll meet Coleraine.
