Camross impress

Camross and Borris-Kilcotton were the big winners over the weekend in the Laois SHC as they both ensured their places in the semi-finals with surprise wins.

Camross impress

Camross were 4-15 to 0-12 winners over Portlaoise, with the margin of victory sending out a statement of intent from Laois’s most successful club. First-half goals from Zane Keenan and Dean Delaney had them in cruise control at half-time, as they led 2-6 to 0-4.

The second half saw Portlaoise come out strongly, scoring 0-3 without reply, but Camross then took over, the excellent Ciaran Collier, who scored 1-6, firing an unstoppable goal. Murty Delaney added a further late goal.

The biggest surprise of the weekend saw champions Rathdowney-Errill beaten on Saturday night by Borris-Kilcotton. A goal before half-time helped them to a 1-15 to 0-13 victory.

In the qualifier rounds, Clough-Ballacolla got their season back on track with a 1-21 to 0-16 win over Ballinakill. In the other qualifier game, Castletown-Slieve Bloom had too much for The Harps.

The quarter-final draws see Clough-Ballacolla face Rathdowney-Errill in a repeat of last year’s final, while Portlaoise face Castletown-Slieve Bloom. Ballinakill play The Harps in the relegation final.
