Cork U21s pick Cahalane

Cork senior footballer Damien Cahalane is a notable inclusion in the county’s U21 hurling side for tomorrow night’s Bord Gáis Energy Munster semi-final with Tipperary in Semple Stadium (7.30pm).

Cork U21s pick Cahalane

Cahalane played for the county senior hurlers last year, but while he had opted to only play senior football this year, he had indicated a desire to play U21 hurling if possible. While his availability for Ger Fitzgerald’s side was in question due to the footballers’ involvement in the All-Ireland qualifiers fourth round the weekend after next, he is named at left half-back. In the previous two years, the St Finbarr’s man had filled the full-back spot.

Two of the Cork side who began last Sunday’s Munster SHC final defeat to Limerick are included. Christopher Joyce is named at centre-back, while Conor Lehane is at left half-forward. Four subs from Sunday, Colm Spillane, Patrick O’Mahony, Robert O’Shea and Jamie Coughlan, are named at corner-back, full-back, midfield and right half-forward respectively.

* The Electric Ireland Munster MHC final replay between Limerick and Waterford takes place at Semple Stadium next Tuesday, July 23, at 7:30pm. Extra-time if necessary.
