No compensation for playing on Fridays

GAA president Liam O’Neill has stated Carlow and Laois players won’t be compensated for tomorrow week’s fixture as he confirmed the first ever Friday evening championship game will go ahead as scheduled.

Following talks between Croke Park and the GPA, the game will throw in as planned at 7.45pm in Dr Cullen Park, a historic first for the All-Ireland SFC and O’Neill claimed “the players are happy enough to play”.

However, some on both sides, especially those working in Dublin, will either have to request annual leave or work half days as a result of the fixture change.
