O’Rahillys continue fine run
Benefiting from the availability of Barry John Keane and Barry John Walsh, both no longer part of the Kerry senior set-up, they set down a marker for the remainder of the league campaign.
A goal in the third minute by BJ Walsh, followed by two BJ Keane points, gave them a 1-2 to 0-1 lead after 13 minutes. Brian Looney and Keane traded points and one from Daithí Casey in the 20th minute narrowed the gap.
O’Rahillys added four unanswered points and despite two points by Brian Looney, O’Rahillys led 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
On the resumption the visitors were clinical in front of the posts and Walsh and Keane (two) stretched their advantage. However Crokes were getting on more ball at this stage and a Gavin O’Shea goal closed the gap to four.
Mike Quirke was a colossus in the middle of the field and dominated throughout. Despite Alan O’Sullivan closing the gap to just a point, Barry John Keane got the insurance score for O’Rahillys.
Austin Stacks stay in second place as they beat depleted Dingle by 0-11 to 0-7 despite the efforts of Marc Evans and Cathal Bambury who had early scores.
Stacks were always in control with Barry Shanahan and William Kirby on top at midfield, Shane Carroll top scoring with four points, and Mikey Collins and David Mannix scoring two each.
Milltown/Castlemaine stay joint second with a narrow win over struggling Laune Rangers, 0-14 to 1-9. Ian Twiss got some vital scores, while Shane McSweeney was best for Rangers.
Rathmore had to battle all the way to beat St Michaels/Foilmore by a point, 1-7 to 0-9 with George O’Keeffe getting the crucial goal. Eanna O’Connor kicked some fine points for the losers.
Waterville had a fine win over Legion , 2-11 to 2-7 at home, while Kilcummin proved far too strong for struggling Spa who looked destined for the drop as they lost 1-19 to 1-11.
