Counihan wants to build on win

Conor Counihan knew Cork had been steeped to get out of Newry with two points last Sunday week but the value of that win was only emphasised by his return to Páirc Esler on Saturday night when Down beat Mayo.

The Cork manager had insisted after their one-point win eight days ago that James McCartan’s men were not the Division 1 hangers-on everyone imagined and that knowledge fortified him ahead of yesterday’s trip to Omagh.

He knew Cork had travelled with a supply of resolve and that they would be competitive. The win he could only hope would arrive but arrive it did and with some degree of authority.
