The supporter has been identified and issued with an undisclosed sanction. The board did not name the individual, nor did it give details of the punishment, but it is understood to be a lengthy suspension.

Lacey, who was not playing in the game due to injury, was spat upon as he walked down the players’ tunnel following Tyrone’s four-point win at Healy Park.

“The incident which occurred is currently being dealt with and will be dealt with very swiftly,” said county chairman Ciaran McLaughlin.

McLaughlin, along with Tyrone manager Mickey Harte, visited the Donegal dressing room when they were made aware of the incident and apologised to Lacey.

“We acted very swiftly and we did immediately go to the player involved, and to the team, who had just left the field, and we expressed our disgust and issued sincere apologies.

“We are all Gaels playing our national games, and that’s why I would urge, moving forward, that all of our Gaels revisit their behaviour at our games and ensure that they are always behaving as we would expect from our players to the very highest levels.”
