Kerry chief says way is clear for work to start at Currans

County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan told club delegates at last night’s re-arranged County Committee meeting that the lands at Currans would be purchased within the next two weeks.

This will involve contracts being signed, clearing the way for work to commence at the site in the late spring.

“We have all our monies ready to complete the purchase of nearly 50 acres. We have got the first allocation of €400,000 and having been given a mandate by the clubs back in 2010 in Jerome Conway’s term as chairman, we are now in a position to begin the development,” said O’Sullivan .

“It will eventually lead to the development of playing pitches and construction dressing rooms, which is so badly needed for the preparation of our inter-county teams and will form part of the Centre of Excellence”

The chairman was not happy at the manner in which Dr Crokes and Ballyduff revealed their choice for captain of the Kerry senior football and hurling teams.

“The proper procedure was not followed as Dr Crokes nominated Eoin Brosnan at their social and it was released to the media. Ballyduff nominated Paud Costello and that also made the media before the County Board was informed.

The county secretary must be informed and names must be ratified by County Committee,” warned O’Sullivan.

The fixture schedule for the year was agreed, and on the inter-county front secretary Peter Twiss told delegates that if Kerry beat Tipperary in the Munster SFC, they will play Waterford six days later, thereby facilitating a request from Waterford.

The chairman paid a warm tribute to the late Paidí Ó Sé and also expressed the Boards sympathies to the relatives of the late Kevin Heffernan and Garda Adrian Donohue.

Eddie Barrett replaces Mikey Dan O’Sullivan as the Referees-Coordinator for the county. The County Football Leagues start on March 31 while the SHC will change from the Christy Ring Cup format to a three groups of three with the three top teams going to the semi-finals while the three runners-up play off for the fourth spot.
