The Cork hurlers and footballers will wear O2-branded jerseys for the next few weeks under the terms of the county board’s contract with the telecommunications giant.

O2’s long relationship with Cork ended before Christmas but board sources confirmed yesterday that the sponsorship agreement covers the interregnum before a new sponsor takes over. Hence the footballers sported jerseys with the old O2 logo in the McGrath Cup, while the hurlers will wear similar gear for the Waterford Crystal Cup.

Meanwhile, Japanese car manufactures Hyundai are in the frame to take over from O2 as Cork GAA sponsors.
