A former government minister, who is now heading up the GAA in Galway, has appealed to players to stop using social media such as Twitter or Facebook.

Galway County Board chairman Noel Treacy said GAA players should not use social media to comment on the games they play in. The former Fianna Fáil minister added that players often post thoughts online without realising they become public gossip.

“We all live today in a global village of instant communication. This has many advantages but carries with it many risks, which are mostly invisible to the unsuspecting, enthusiastic and sometimes innocent user,” he said.
