Joyce’s seven points crucial
The 2010 champions needed a replay to get past Micheál Breathnach’s, and it looked as if extra-time would be needed to separate the sides after they were deadlocked heading into added time. However, Michael Boyle and Pádraig Joyce kicked a point each in the closing stages to send Killererin into the last four.
The sides were level at 0-5 each at half-time, Killererin finishing the opening period well with points from Shane Hughes and Damien Flaherty to pull level with the Gaeltacht men at the break.
Three points in a row from the Joyces – two from Pádraig and one from his cousin Nicky – gave Killererin the upper hand early in the second half. However, in the closing stages, Sean Denvir, Peadar Óg Ó Griofa and Eanna Ó Griallais all pointed for Micheál Breathnach’s to square up the tie nearing the full-time whistle.
But Boyle pointed from distance and Pádraig Joyce tapped over to seal the two-point win for Killererin.
