Clinical Cats ride out brief

Most of the Kilkenny damage was done in the middle of the opening half. Goals from Ollie Walsh, a fine individual effort, John Power, set up by a surging Richie Doyle run, and Ger Aylward, a brilliant low squared ball from the right corner by Pádraig Walsh, along with two points each from Walsh, Aylward and Kevin Kelly, took Kilkenny from a three-point deficit to a 10-point lead in a lethal 14-minute spell.
Thereafter, and given that Kilkenny would have the advantage of the breeze for the second-half, Galway faced a mammoth task to try and rein in these extremely talented young Cats and give themselves an opportunity of retaining the All-Ireland title.
