McCartan hints at exit

Down boss James McCartan was in reflective mood following last Saturday’s heavy defeat to Mayo.

‘Wee James’ would not be drawn directly on his position but spoke very much in the past tense. Perhaps there’s a clue there.

The undoubted highlight of McCartan’s three-year spell in charge was an All-Ireland final appearance in 2010 but Down were limp and lifeless last Saturday, bowing out with barely a whimper.
