Glennon defends club game choice
Glennon, goalkeeper Darren Quinn and forward Ger Egan had come under criticism for lining out for Tyrrellspass in a Westmeath All-County League Division 1 game against Mullingar Shamrocks just five days ahead of their qualifier against Kerry tomorrow afternoon. The game took place in Springfield, Mullingar close to Cusack Park where county training was on at the same time.
Shamrock’s failed to use any county players in the game, although Denis Corroon and Davy Gavin left county training on hearing that Tyrrellspass were fielding their Westmeath contingent.
“We got permission to play from Pat,” Glennon said. “Also the county board and county opponents were asked to call off the game, but both refused.
“Our team has the most county players and it’s only a small village so it was struggling very bad without us. The team were winning no games and we couldn’t stand by and let the team be relegated from Division 1.”
