Finding Munster’s superfan

Munster Council chairman Sean Walsh last night welcomed the return of the provincial ‘Supporter of the Year’ competition, in association with the Irish Examiner, for this season’s inter-county senior championships.

“We’re delighted to launch the initiative for a second year and particularly to be in partnership with the Irish Examiner. It gives us the chance to honour and recognise those supporters who devote a large amount of their time to support their county’s teams. Supporters can nominate either themselves or another supporter throughout the championship. They can do this by sending a picture to the Irish Examiner facebook page which is up and running for this competition.”

Last year’s inaugural winner was well known Cork fan, Cyril Kavanagh, instantly recognisable with his Mexican cape and sombrero. However Kavanagh isn’t just an “occasion junkie” — he’s a frequent visitor to Cork training sessions.
