Stacks show steel to edge O’Rahillys
Stacks had a dream start, with goals from Shane Carroll and Paul O’Donoghue after five minutes, for a 2-2 to 0-0 lead.
However the home side rallied to trail by two points at half-time (2-4 to 1-5).
O’Rahillys goaled again early in the second half to lead 2-6 to 2-4, but seven points on the trot gave Stacks victory and local bragging rights.
Meanwhile, Rathmore gained a measure of revenge for their recent Kerry senior club final defeat to Dr Crokes as they defeated the Killarney side, 2-15 to 0-13, yesterday.
Rathmore are now in joint second place, just a point behind Stacks.
Leading 0-12 to 0-4 at half-time, with Michael O’Riordan scoring 0-5 and John Moynihan kicking 0-3, Rathmore moved 2-13 to 0-8 ahead in the second half with goals from Eoin Lawlor and Michael Anthony Kelliher, while Rathmore’s Padraic McCarthy saved a late penalty.
All-Ireland intermediate football champions Milltown/Castlemaine join Rathmore in second placeafter their 0-14 to 0-9 victory over winless Ardfert.
Cathal Moriarty was Milltown/Castlemaine’s scorer-in-chief with 0-5, while both Ian Twiss and Donal Kelliher bagged 0-2 apiece.
Laune Rangers picked up their first points of the campaign with a 2-12 to 0-10 victory over St Michael’s/Foilmore, with Geoffrey Mahony and Mike Frank Russell the goalscorers.
Elsewhere, 14-man Killarney Legion battled hard to overcome an early red card and a four-point deficit early in the second half to defeat home side, Gneeveguilla, 1-12 to 2-6, with Thomas Moriarty grabbing the all-important goal for the Killarney club.
Legion now move to a mid-table position after this win.
