Aghada selector has lucky escape

A selector with a Cork senior football club was last night recovering in hospital after he was left briefly unconscious when accidentally struck in the head by a football before a county championship game yesterday afternoon.

The incident took place in the West Cork venue of Newcestown with Kenneth O’Keeffe, a selector with Aghada, the home club of Cork senior manager Conor Counihan, suffering the blow before the game.

A 55 minute delay resulted before the throw-in took place in Aghada’s first round tie against last year’s finalists Castlehaven with O’Keeffe receiving medical attention on the pitch before an ambulance arrived to transfer him to hospital.
