Cork and Monaghan in All-Ireland final repeat

Cork and Monaghan will contest the Bord Gáis Ladies National Football League Division 1 final on May 12 — a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland senior final.

Cork defeated Meath 3-10 to 0-10 at Crettyard while Monaghan scored an impressive 2-9 to 0-7 victory over Dublin at Drogheda’s Gaelic Grounds.

Cork led 2-4 to 0-6 at the midway point at Crettyard as Rhona Ní Bhuachalla struck with a sixth minute goal before Ciara O’Sullivan added a second in the 11th minute.

Cork had the benefit of a strong breeze in the second half and added a third goal three minutes from time through substitute Valerie Mulcahy.

Monaghan produced a fine display to book a place in the Division 1 decider for the first time since 2001. Catriona McConnell and Caoimhe Mohan scored 1-3 apiece while Niamh Kindlon added two points for the Ulster outfit. Amy Ring and Sinead Goldrick scored two points each for Dublin.

Mayo and Galway will fight it out for promotion to Division 1 when they contest the Division 2 decider on May 12, a game that will form part of a triple header at Parnell Park, Dublin.

Gillian Joyce scored a late goal to seal a 3-6 to 1-10 victory over Clare while Cora Staunton scored 2-4 as Mayo beat Kerry by 4-6 to 1-7. At half-time, Clare led 1-8 to 2-1 but they were undone by a spirited Galway fightback.

In the second semi-final, Mayo led by 2-2 to 1-4 at half-time against Kerry. Staunton was the star for Mayo once again as Sarah Roe and Niamh Kelly also chipped in with goals.

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh finished as Kerry’s leading scorer with 1-2 while Mayo’s other two points were supplied by Staunton’s Carnacon clubmate Fiona McHale.

The Division 3 final will be contested by Leitrim and Westmeath.

Áine Tighe bagged 0-5 for Leitrim in their 1-11 to 0-7 victory over Down as Ciara Keegan weighed in with 1-2. Westmeath ran out 5-6 to 1-7 winners against Armagh, Ciara Blundell scoring a brace of goals.
