Cooper injury worry for Kingdom

An injury to captain Colm Cooper was not the news Kerry manager O’Connor manager wanted to hear with the Championship campaign looming.

The alarm bells were ringing yesterday as the star attacker limped off at half-time during Dr Crokes’ game against Laune Rangers in the Club Championship semi-final.

Cooper had been in sparkling form, finding the net inside the opening five minutes, as Crokes shredded a young Laune Rangers defence before running out 2-18 to 0-13 victors.

Crokes chairman Vince Casey confirmed Cooper was injured. He said: It’s a recurrence of his old ankle injury and though he was able to walk off, he was in pain. We got him treated straight away and applied ice to the ankle.”

“I think Colm will be fine, but obviously any injury to a player as vital as Colm to club and county is a worry.”
