Meehan boost for Galway

Galway attacker Michael Meehan played his first match of the year yesterday.

Meehan boost for Galway

The Caltra man’s career had been put in doubt following recurring ankle cartilage problems but came off the bench to kick three points and lay on the ball for a goal in his club’s league 1-12 to 1-11 league victory over Williamstown.

But before Galway supporters get too excited, Meehan may not return in time for his county’s Connacht SFC clash with Roscommon on May 20.

The injury, on previous occasions, has not responded well to contact and he will undergo further tests later this week.

Meanwhile Tyrone’s Kyle Coney limped off in a club game with a groin injury yesterday. He had scored four points at that stage to help his side win but faces a race against time to be ready to face Kildare in the Allianz Football League Division 2 final on April 29.

Owen Mulligan sustained a dead leg in the closing stages of Cookstown’s win over Eskra yesterday ads well but it should be fine for the Croke Park decider.
