Sligo finish with a flourish

Sligo ended their Division Three campaign with a flourish when defeating their neighbours at a wet Markievicz Park.

None of the counties used their respective U21 players from the previous day’s Connacht final but Sligo were strengthened by Eugene Mullen’s return to midfield while the inside forward line of Mark Breheny, Adrian Marren and Alan Costello supplied 1-7 of their winning total.

Top scorer Marren’s goal in first-half added time from a move involving Costello and Breheny put Sligo three points up (1-6 to 0-6) after an even opening period and the winners, who later held a seven-points lead, were never seriously troubled.

Conor Devaney and Senan Kilbride kicked fine points for the losers and Kilbride saw his 47th minute goalbound flick held on the line by Sligo captain Ross Donovan.
