Family loyalty takes back seat

Breakfast in a certain Shannon household must have been a frosty affair yesterday.

On Sunday afternoon Aaron Cunningham’s point edged Clare to victory over an Offaly side trained by his father Alan in a crucial Allianz Hurling League Division 1B clash at O’Connor Park.

“It was an awkward one, with Aaron playing,” Alan admitted. “We tried not to talk about it too much and in fairness to Davy [Fitzgerald] he didn’t make a deal out of it either. Aaron didn’t know he would be playing. And if he did know he didn’t tell me.”
