Galway GAA officials have been told to get their house in order after it emerged the county’s debt had soared to more than €5 million.

GAA president Christy Cooney and director general Padraic Duffy met Galway County Board officials to draw up a plan to deal with the debt. And Cooney has told them that while Croke Park will offer assistance, it will be up to them to come up with the solution to the huge debt.

The recently elected county board chairman Noel Treacy, a former Fianna Fáil minister, confirmed the debt was now at €5m.
