O’Sullivan hails Galvin’s input as Kerry forwards in the groove
The 2009 footballer of the year was instrumental in the victory and O’Sullivan was quick to credit the Finuge man for his input.
“He’s getting a good run of games under his belt this year. He has been unlucky in previous years with injuries and what-not.
“He’s getting games, he’s training hard and working hard like everyone else. Everyone knows what type of footballer he is — he has been one of the best footballers around for a long time and with the games he’s getting this year, that’s coming through.
“People focus on how good he is at winning the breaks, but he has always been one of the best passers of the ball in our team.
“He very rarely gives away a silly ball or picks the wrong option. He’s a very intelligent footballer and more often than not picks the right pass.”
Apart from Galvin, with Kieran Donaghy operating again on the half-forward line, O’Sullivan agrees there are more options in the Kerry attack.
“There’s a good bit of variety there and who’s to say Kieran won’t wander in there at some stage. He did that in the first-half when things were slowing up. There’s inter-changing there in the forwards and Jack has given us that bit of freedom which suits us.
He continued: “Maybe we’re using our head a bit more. When you’re stuck and you have Donaghy inside you have the easy option and just lamp it in. It’s not fair on him because some of the balls we were playing into him were just horrible. He was getting the blame for not winning them but they were cat balls. Maybe we’re having to use the head a small bit more now that he’s out the field.”
