Kerry hurling boss drops three Boyle brothers

Kerry hurling manager John Meyler has cut three players from his panel reportedly for playing soccer close to their recent league game.

Three of the four Boyle brothers from Ballyduff have been dropped for what Meyler has described as “a lack of commitment“.

It is understood the Wexford native took the decision after Mikey, Liam and Pádraig lined out for Rattoo Rovers in a Kerry District League Premier A game against Castleisland last Thursday — three days before the county’s league defeat to Carlow.

Last year’s Christy Ring Cup winning captain Mikey, Liam, who started this season as skipper and younger sibling Pádraig, scorer of three goals on his debut against Westmeath, are all forwards.

The controversy comes in the wake of the Division 2A defeat to Carlow in Killarney which saw Kerry drop to the bottom of the division. The other Boyle brother, Aiden, remains in the panel.

With a trip to Wicklow on Sunday, it now appears Kerry will have to play the rest of their league campaign without three Boyles as well as two more first choice attackers in leg injury victims John Egan and Michael Conway.
