Walsh warns of rural decline

Munster Council Chairman Sean Walsh has hit out at Government policies of targeting services in rural areas for cutbacks and warned they could have serious consequences for the future of GAA clubs in those communities.

Walsh elaborated on an issue he raised at last Friday night’s provincial convention in Dungarvan where he expressed concerns about the cuts affecting school, Garda stations and post offices in rural parts of Munster.

“It’s a wide area of concern to us because in a province like ours, there are a lot of rural areas for example in West Cork, South Kerry and West Clare.
