Leahy takes Mullinahone reins from Kennedy

Former Tipperary star John Leahy has been appointed as Mullinahone’s minor manager after last season’s county title-winning boss Johnny Kennedy suddenly withdrew his candidacy.

Kennedy had been expected to be voted in for another season after a triumphant 2011 when the club won the first minor ‘A’ title in their history and also added a first divisional minor ‘A’ crown since the success of 1996.

However, Kennedy found himself opposed by Leahy, who had previously served under Kennedy last year, at last Friday’s adjourned club AGM.

After the pair were both proposed and seconded, Kennedy withdrew his name thus handing Leahy the position.

The appointment of the three-time All Star has caused consternation in the club after the success Kennedy has had and the fact he has coached the current crop of players since right up from the time they lined out for the U12s.

Blackrock man Pat Heffernan, a selector with Donal O’Grady in Limerick last year, will take charge of the Mullinahone senior hurlers for 2012.
