FORMER GAA president Sean Kelly warned the introduction of a system of regulated payments to senior intercounty managers could be doomed to failure, unless there is a full disclosure of the sums of money involved.

The proposal to regulate the payments is outlined as the third option in the discussion paper on the GAA’s Amateur Status and Payments to Team Managers released by Croke Park yesterday.

But Kelly insists it will be difficult to obtain the information concerning the monies involved. The Kilcumminnative, who served as president of the GAA between 2003 and 2006, alsobelieves the figures estimated to be paid to managers ‘are exaggerated’. He also described the majority of managers ‘as committed GAA people’.
