LIMERICK GAA chiefs are pressing ahead with plans to develop the Gaelic Grounds as a venue capable of hosting large concerts.

County secretary Mike O’Riordan revealed the move is being undertaken to tackle the “phenomenal costs” associated with running the stadium, exacerbated by the lack of regular games fixed for the Ennis Road venue.

Board officials are waiting on a change of ruling from Limerick council chiefs relating to planning documentation which states the stadium can be used solely for sporting events.
