Tipp star Callanan faces lay-off

TIPPERARY hurler Seamus Callanan will miss the start of the Allianz Hurling League as he recovers from ankle surgery, though sources in the county say “there is no question” of him missing the championship.

The Drom & Inch star is expected to go under the knife this week to correct a minor injury but is considered unlikely to figure for the Premier County in the early stages of the league.

“He’s likely to have to recover for several weeks,” said a Tipperary source.
