Brendan’s tackle Críost Rí in tasty quarter-final

THE last two Corn Uí Mhuirí champions, St Brendan’s (Killarney) and Coláiste Chríost Rí, will meet in the quarter-final of this season’s competition, while Ardscoil Rís, chasing a third Dr Harty Cup title in-a-row, will put their crown on the line when they face Limerick city rivals Castletroy College.

The draws of the knockout stages of this year’s Munster Colleges competitions were made on Saturday in Mallow, with St Brendan’s against Críost Rí the highlight of the Corn Uí Mhuirí draw.

Elsewhere, newcomers Rochestown College will face 2007 champions Tralee CBS, last year’s beaten finalists PS Chorca Dhuibhne meet St Flannan’s (Ennis) while there is an all-Cork clash between De La Salle (Macroom) and St Fachtna’s (Skibbereen).

The four ties are scheduled for January 25.

The Dr Harty Cup quarter-finals take place on Wednesday week, January 18, with the Limerick city battle between Ardscoil Rís and Castletroy College the glamour tie. There is also a Tipperary derby with 2009 title winners Thurles CBS playing Nenagh CBS while Midleton CBS and De La Salle (Waterford), who won three Dr Harty Cups between them from 2006 to 2008, have also been drawn together. The remaining quarter-final will be a battle between St Flannan’s (Ennis) and Waterford Colleges.
