‘Substantial loss’ incurred by Kildare

KILDARE GAA secretary Kathleen O’Neill warned the county is in the last chance saloon as they bid to tackle a €200,000 debt.

O’Neill conceded in her report to Saturday’s annual convention that the “remedial action needed was not taken” by the board to avert the crisis.

A number of fundraising initiatives have been launched including new county jerseys and the creation of a Kildare GAA shop in Newbridge. Costs of preparing teams are also set to be slashed for next season.

“The remedial action needed was not taken and as you are aware by now, we are facing a substantial loss this year. This is the last chance we, as a county will get to solve our problems” O’Neill cautioned.

Meanwhile Johnny Doyle’s club, Allenwood has submitted a motion calling for the policy of using referees’ assessors to be discontinued, claiming that “there has been no significant improvement in standards since its introduction”.
