Nominate or we fold, ladies told

DONEGAL Ladies GAA board officials have urged clubs to put names forward for positions on the board at their reconvened AGM on Monday night — or face the prospect of being disbanded.

Clubs were warned of the stark possibility in an email circulated by outgoing ladies board secretary Deirdre Dillon this week.

“The reconvened AGM will take place in Clanree Hotel on Monday 28th November at 7.30pm. Please make every effort to have nominations for outstanding positions as the county board will be forced to disband if they are not filled,” the email warned.

At the AGM held at the beginning of last week, only 19 of the 34 clubs turned up and the meeting failed to elect a chairman and secretary. Yesterday, outgoing PRO Paddy Coll said people involved in the ladies’ game in Donegal must stand up and be counted.

“We need a chairman and secretary to be elected before we can stay in existence — that is the reality for the meeting on Monday night,” he warned.

“There was a very poor turnout in respect of clubs at the AGM. People always shy away from AGMs because they’re scared of getting a job.

“But a job is only a job to keep you occupied in something that you’re interested in anyway. It doesn’t have to take over your whole life. People need to realise that.”
