O’Shea brothers born in Mullingar, not Killorglin

IT should be a fact or fiction question at this stage.

The common belief is that Mayo midfielders Seamus and Aidan O’Shea were born in Killorglin. The brothers were in fact born in Mullingar and moved to Mayo when Aidan was three and Seamus was six.

Their father, James, hails from near Caragh Lake outside Killorglin and played with Laune Rangers and the Kerry minor and U21 teams. He’s the current trainer of the Breaffy senior football team, who have reached the county quarter-final.

His wife, Sheila, is from the Killorglin area as well but they moved to Mayo when James got a transfer with the bank. Younger brother Conor was captain of the Mayo minor team this year.
