Jerseys change for Kerry, Mayo

BOTH Kerry and Mayo will wear change jerseys when they meet in the All-Ireland senior football semi-final on Sunday week, August 21.

Jerseys change for Kerry, Mayo

As the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee have deemed Kerry’s green shirts with gold hoop to clash with Mayo’s green and red, the Kingdom will wear the navy kit they used in the quarter-final win over Limerick. Their Connacht opponents will wear a predominantly red shirt with green trim, which was already donned this year in their Connacht opener against London. In the 1981 All-Ireland semi-final, provincial colours were used, all-blue for Kerry and all-white for Mayo. At the same stage in 1996, both were allowed to wear their normal strips but for the following year’s final Kerry wore jerseys with a wider hoop to aid differentiation.

In the 2004 All-Ireland final, Mayo changed to red, but while neither county had introduced a new kit by the time they met in the ‘05 quarter-final, no change was ordered. Regular kits were again used for the 2006 All-Ireland final, though larger quantities of gold on the new Kerry jersey helped to identify the teams.
