Tribesmen rule out move for Micko

MICK O’DWYER has been ruled out of the running for the Galway football manager’s job with delegates insisting it must go to a local man.

Tribesmen rule out move for Micko

Chairman of Galway football board John Joe Holleran confirmed delegates ruled out O’Dwyer on Friday night.

“The delegates made a recommendation that the job had to go to a Galway man or at least someone who is living in Galway so that would rule out the likes of Mick O’Dwyer and quite a few others,” said Holleran.

Alan Mulholland, who guided the Tribesmen to the All-Ireland U21 title this year is favourite to take over from Tomás Ó Flatharta, with Sligo boss and former Galway midfielder Kevin Walsh also shortlisted.

Ó Flatharta was removed from the position on Friday, just 10 months into a three-year term, following a disastrous league and championship campaign to leave Galway looking for their fourth manager in as many years.

Holleran defended the decision to appoint Ó Flatharta last year and said he was disappointed it had not worked out.

“The decision last year was made in the best interest. It was made on the best information, following a process, and it we all had the benefit of hindsight we would all win the lotto,” said Holleran.
