GLENVILLE are back in the race for Cork County Premier IFC honours following a 0-11 to 0-6 victory over Carrigaline at Blarney last night.

The losers, meanwhile, have to turn their thoughts to a relegation fight with Grenagh in an attempt to maintain their status. And they can have little complaints on the night against a superior Glenville team that had the ability to set up raid after raid over the hour.

Glenville, who lost to Mallow and Mayfield in their previous championship matches, were leaving nothing to chance this time as they attacked from the off.

They had big match players in many positions — Paddy O’Regan at centre-back, Sean O’Callaghan a roaming full back, midfielders Noel O’Riordan and Ger Cahill, while Kieran Coakley and Paudie Cahill in the inside forward line also impressed.

It was a tough night for Nicholas Murphy who struggled from the outset with a hamstring injury. He moved from the central area to full-forward in the second-half but was clearly troubled and was eventually substituted.

Meanwhile, in the U21AFC semi-final O’Donovan Rossa defeated Midleton 1-14 to 1-5 at Carrigadrohid yesterday.

After their performance against Nemo Rangers in the quarter-final expectations were high for this Skibbereen side. They didn’t disappoint with a workmanlike display — the only blip was some erratic shooting particularly in the opening half.

When it came down to it, the return of full-forward turned midfielder Donal Óg Hodnett was excellent (0-6 points), so was their number eight Shane Crowley and nearer goal Thomas Hegarty, Rob McCarthy and David Shannon stood out in a hard-working attack.
