Sad Bonnar bows out on a real low
Colm Bonnar broke off from chatting with his Wexford colleagues to confirm the end of his management career with the Model County.
“No, no it’s finished now. It’s disappointing to finish like this, we thought we’d get another shot somewhere.
“It’s been tough. We came in and were down in Division Two. I felt we learned so much more this year, being in Division One. We led a sheltered life for a couple of years and it did affect us.
“This was our first full year out of it (Division Two) and we made progress from the six points we scored against Galway to being competitive at the end of the league.”
The former Tipperary hurler dissected the game honestly: his side got a late goal to put a respectable gloss on the scoreboard, but he conceded that Limerick were the better team on the night.
“They were dominant. We started winning more of the breaking ball in the second half, our midfielders started getting into it more, but to give away a goal like that so quick at the start of the second half was a killer.
“Those goal chances will probably haunt us, we don’t seem to be able to take our chances.
“We’re disappointed to finish on that note, we thought we were a lot closer than that to Limerick.”
